  • Community Building

Project Summary:

Our project fosters community and connection for international students and local youth during the harsh Canadian winter. Through two key events—”Mic N Marshmallows” in December and “Love Like Christ” in February—we create a warm, inclusive environment where participants can celebrate together, share stories, and build lasting friendships. “Mic N Marshmallows” offers a cozy Christmas gathering with festive activities, while “Love Like Christ” is a Valentine’s Gala emphasizing community and support. Open to all students and youth, these events bridge cultural gaps and provide a sense of family and belonging during the coldest months of the year.

Contributing To An Inclusive Canada

1. Embracing Diversity: We aim to create a welcoming space for international students and youth who might feel isolated, especially during the cold Canadian winter. By hosting our events at the church, we offer a neutral and inclusive setting where people from different backgrounds can come together. This helps everyone feel included and celebrated, bridging gaps between various communities.

2. Supporting BIPOC Youth: Our events, “Mic N Marshmallows” and “Love Like Christ,” are designed to support international students and youth from BIPOC communities. Many of these individuals face challenges like feeling alone or disconnected. Our gatherings provide a sense of community and belonging, helping them connect with peers and integrate into Canadian society.

3. Building Leadership and Engagement: We’re not just hosting events; we’re also empowering youth by involving them in planning and organizing. This helps them develop leadership skills and a sense of civic duty. They learn to work together, manage projects, and make a positive impact in their community.

4. Highlighting Canadian Diversity: Our events offer a chance for participants to reflect on and discuss the importance of diversity in Canada. They’ll share their stories and learn about Canadian history, reinforcing the values of inclusivity and mutual respect.

5. Keeping It Accessible: Everything we do is free of charge to ensure that anyone who wants to join can do so without worrying about costs. This aligns with the grant’s goal of providing free access to activities.

By supporting our project, you help us create a community where BIPOC youth and international students feel connected and valued. Our project is all about enhancing civic engagement, fostering leadership, and building positive, inclusive connections.
