Project Summary
“SHAPE: Socio-environmental Holistic Analysis of Predisposing Factors in Education” is a research program exploring how socio-environmental factors influence educational choices and future career outcomes, focusing on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The study examines the impact of family background, community support, and school environment on educational aspirations using surveys and interviews. The findings will inform policies to create more inclusive educational environments. By amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups, SHAPE aims to foster equitable opportunities and success for all students. Funding supports data collection, analysis, and dissemination to ensure comprehensive and impactful research.
Addressing Community Needs:
Educational Equity: The project addresses the need to understand and improve educational equity by identifying the socio-environmental factors that influence educational choices and outcomes. This understanding helps in developing strategies to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have equal access to quality education and opportunities for success.
Diversity and Inclusion Awareness: By focusing on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), the project highlights the experiences and challenges faced by underrepresented and marginalized groups in educational settings. This addresses the community’s need for more inclusive practices and policies that acknowledge and support the diversity of the student population. The dissemination of research findings through publication and community outreach will also raise awareness about the importance of EDI in education. This can lead to increased advocacy for equitable practices and support for initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in educational settings.
Informing policy-making endeavors: The research findings will provide valuable data to inform policymakers and educational institutions about the critical factors affecting educational outcomes. This addresses the need for evidence-based policymaking that can lead to targeted interventions and resources to improve educational environments and outcomes for diverse populations.
Community Support and Engagement: The project will engage community members, including families, educators, and students, in the research process. This will promote a collaborative approach to addressing educational challenges and ensure that the community’s voice is heard in the development of solutions. Furthermore, by examining the correlation between environmental factors and long-term career success, the project addresses the community’s need for understanding how to better prepare students for future opportunities. This can lead to developing programs and resources that support students in achieving their career goals.
