Shame(less)

Project Summary

Shame will be a multidisciplinary art show, where BIPOC women and non-binary folks will come together to talk about experiences of shame. This work emerged from a deep desire to connect with friends as we shared our journeys of releasing shame. This shame, perpetuated across generations and instilled by our loved ones, has been internalized by us as a means of self-protection. Our work is a reclamation of our identities, our freedom, and our collective journey toward vulnerability. We have all experienced shame, and through this work, we declare that we are done living in its shadow.

Contributing To An Inclusive Canada

Amplifying Marginalized Voices: By centering the experiences of BIPOC women and non-binary individuals, we amplify voices that are often underrepresented. This promotes a more diverse and inclusive cultural narrative.

Fostering Understanding and Empathy: Through sharing personal stories of shame and resilience, the project encourages empathy and understanding among different communities. This helps to break down stereotypes and foster a more inclusive society.

Creating Safe Spaces: The project provides a safe and supportive environment for participants to express themselves and connect with others who share similar experiences. This helps to build a sense of belonging and community.

Promoting Social Equity: By addressing issues of shame and its impact, particularly within marginalized communities, the project highlights the need for social equity and justice. It encourages conversations and actions that support these goals.
