Project Summary:
The Raise n’ Create program is a 4-week photography program designed to empower Oromo youth through creative expression, cultural preservation, and community bonding. Participants will explore the art of photography, guided by experienced mentors, and develop their unique projects in both community and professional studio settings. The program culminates in a final individual project and the opportunity to have their work shared with the community through our online platforms. Participants will also receive the cameras they used, inspiring them to continue their artistic journey. This program is a unique opportunity to celebrate and amplify the voices of Oromo youth through the power of photography.
Contributing To An Inclusive Canada
Our program contributes to an inclusive Canada by integrating, appreciating and showcasing the diverse culture of Oromo youth. By providing a platform for these youth to express their unique perspectives and experiences through photography, we promote cultural understanding and appreciation. This directly aligns with the grant’s focus on inclusion by addressing the specific needs of a marginalized community, creating opportunities, and increasing positive connections for underrepresented youth. Through showcasing their work, participants not only gain confidence but also help bridge gaps between different cultural groups, contributing to a more diverse and inclusive Canadian society.
