Queer Talk
Hosted By: Angelo R.
Project For Ages: 20 to 29 years old
Project Category: Youth Empowerment
Project:
The “Queer Talk” celebrates Black and POC queer artists in Canada through performances, storytelling, and conversation. A highlight will be the story of Emmah, a Ugandan trans woman facing extreme danger in a refugee camp. This event aims to promote inclusivity, address systemic barriers, and raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. The event aspires to foster a more inclusive and equitable arts community by amplifying diverse voices and experiences.
Addressing Community Needs:
The project provides a platform for Black and POC queer artists, ensuring their stories and talents are seen and celebrated, addressing the need for greater visibility and representation in the arts. The event fosters a sense of community and solidarity among attendees, promoting understanding and cohesion within the local LGBTQ+ and broader communities. Sharing diverse stories educates the broader public about the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly those intersecting with race and immigration, promoting empathy and action.
The showcase empowers marginalized artists by providing them a stage to share their work, inspiring both the artists and the audience through stories of resilience and creativity.
