Peace Be Upon Us

Hosted By: Niya A.

Program For Ages: 20+ Years Old.

“Peace Be Upon You,” would be a weekly support group for new Muslim women in the Greater Toronto Area. This initiative addresses isolation, loneliness, and Islamophobia by hosting Zoom meetings where participants can share experiences and build a sisterhood. The group aims to bridge the gap between new Muslims and the broader Muslim community, providing emotional support and fostering connections. Additionally, each participant will receive a starter kit including an abaya, hijab, tasbeeh, and prayer mat to help them integrate into Muslim spaces comfortably. This program empowers new Muslim women and creates a supportive community.

Addressing Community Needs:

The “Peace Be Upon You” support group for new Muslim women addresses several key needs within the community. Many new Muslim women feel isolated and lonely after converting, lacking a supportive network. This project offers a weekly space where they can connect, share experiences, and build a sense of sisterhood. It also provides a safe environment to discuss and navigate the discrimination and cultural challenges they often face, helping participants cope with Islamophobia and societal barriers.

Emotional support is a critical aspect of the project. The support group serves as a platform for sharing emotions and seeking advice, making women feel understood and supported during their transition to a new faith. Practical needs are also addressed through the provision of a starter kit, including an abaya, hijab, tasbeeh, and prayer mat, which helps new Muslims integrate into religious spaces comfortably.

Moreover, the group acts as a bridge between new Muslims and the broader community, fostering connections and facilitating a smoother transition into their new religious and social identity. By addressing these various needs, “Peace Be Upon You” empowers new Muslim women, promotes inclusivity, and strengthens the community as a whole.
