Project Summary:

Nutrition and Exercise Learning for Youth (NELY) is an initiative that empowers BIPOC youth with knowledge about healthy living through culturally relevant education on nutrition and exercise. Founded in 2021, NELY combines educational segments with interactive cooking sessions, providing hands-on learning experiences. With a volunteer base of 8 to 12 students annually, NELY has partnered with organizations like YMCA and Trellis to reach over 200 youth across Calgary. The program aims to address health disparities and foster long-term behavioral change, helping youth make informed decisions about their well-being.

Contributing To An Inclusive Canada

NELY contributes to an inclusive Canada by specifically targeting BIPOC youth from immigrant backgrounds who often face barriers to accessing health education. By offering culturally tailored nutrition and exercise programs, NELY addresses gaps in health resources and supports the well-being of marginalized communities. The program’s focus on interactive and hands-on learning creates equitable opportunities for these youth to gain essential health knowledge. This aligns with the grant’s focus on fostering inclusiveness by promoting health equity and ensuring that underserved populations have access to vital resources for improving their well-being.
