Project Summary:

“Leadership Development: Cultivating Tomorrow’s Leaders” empowers Black youth, aged 16-25 from the Black Creek community of Toronto and surrounding neighborhoods to become changemakers through the delivery of culturally relevant workshops. Throughout the program, participants develop leadership and personal development skills, including effective communication, decision-making, team building, strategic planning, goal setting, time management, networking, and career planning. Grounded in an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework, the program guides youth on a journey of holistic personal and professional growth, contributing to a more inclusive Canada.

Contributing To An Inclusive Canada

My project is a catalyst for building an inclusive Canada by empowering Black youth to become changemakers within their communities. The workshops are developed using anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks to explore both the impacts of racism and oppression on Black youth and on other minorities as well. We discuss intersectionality and how great leaders foster inclusive spaces. The workshops prepare youth for leadership roles with confidence and empower them to advocate for themselves and others.

The program actively promotes diversity in leadership, recognizing the importance of having leaders who reflect the richness of Canada’s multicultural landscape. By providing a platform for Black individuals to develop and showcase their leadership abilities, we are contributing to a more representative and inclusive society where everyone’s voice is heard and valued.

The program also addresses the systemic barriers that hinder the advancement of Black people. The workshops are designed to equip participants with the skills and tools necessary to recognize and navigate these barriers, ultimately leveling the playing field for Black youth in professional spaces and leadership roles.

By investing in the leadership, and personal and professional development of Black youth, we are contributing to a more inclusive Canada.
