Project For Ages: 10 to 60 Years Old

Project Categories:

  • Youth Empowerment
  • Mentoring

Project Summary:

Ottawa’s significant South Sudanese community faces high numbers of street kids and low college enrollment due to a cultural disconnect between parents and Canadian-born children. To address this, we propose a community-facilitated roundtable discussion to bridge the generational gap and foster positive relationships. Additionally, successful South Sudanese professionals will share their career journeys to inspire youth and offer pathways to higher education. This initiative aims to reduce street involvement and boost educational aspirations among South Sudanese youth.

Contributing To An Inclusive Canada

This project contributes to an inclusive Canada by promoting cultural understanding and integration within Ottawa’s South Sudanese community. By bridging generational gaps and providing role models, it fosters a supportive environment that encourages educational aspirations and positive life choices among youth. The initiative aligns with the grant by addressing barriers to inclusion—such as cultural disconnects and lack of mentorship—while promoting diversity and empowering marginalized groups. Through shared experiences and career journeys of successful professionals, it inspires youth to contribute actively to Canadian society, fostering a more inclusive and cohesive community.
