Project Summary:

The “Rising Queens” segment of the “Future Leaders Retreat” is a three-day, two-night wellness retreat for young Black females aged 13-17 from marginalized Black communities in Nova Scotia, designed to promote emotional healing, self-care practices, and empowerment through representation and supportive community.

Addressing Community Needs:

Emotional Healing and Support: Many young Black females from our communities have experienced significant grief and trauma. The retreat provides a safe space for them to express their feelings, share their experiences, and receive emotional support from peers and facilitators who understand and have lived their challenges.

Representation and Role Models: There is a need for young Black females to see and learn from role models who look like them and share similar experiences. The retreat offers workshops and mentoring sessions led by facilitators who can provide relatable guidance and inspiration.

Self-Care Education: Participants will learn essential self-care practices that address their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Workshops on topics such as vaginal health, mindfulness, and creative expression will equip them with tools to manage their well-being effectively.

Community Building: The retreat fosters a sense of community and belonging, helping participants to build supportive relationships with their peers.

Empowerment and Resilience: By providing tools and strategies for managing physical and emotional challenges, the retreat empowers participants to become resilient leaders in their communities. The retreat aims to build their confidence and equip them with the skills needed to navigate their future successfully.

By addressing these needs, the “Rising Queens” retreat aims to create a lasting positive impact on the lives of young Black females, fostering healing, growth, and empowerment.
