Project Summary
I propose a youth conference targeted toward newcomer youths in Toronto from 18-28, especially newly admitted university students and international students. This youth conference addresses the need to reframe and construct the mindset of the participants to channel their desires and burning passion into making an impact. This would be done by inviting speakers who are immigrants and have made impacts in their local community and nation-wide. We would be garnering from their experiences and leaving the conference motivated to move beyond limits and persist in the face of roadblocks.

Addressing Community Needs:
As a follow-up from the previous project that was funded by Weston Frontlines Toronto called MindCraft: Building Sturdy Teens, which aimed to help newcomer youths settle into the country in the right direction. I realized that many of the participants did not see reasons to participate and get involved in the community and those that did, did so just to complete their high school requirements for volunteer hours.
A report from Statistics Canada(2012) showed that immigrants are less likely to engage in volunteer activities than Canadian-borns. After further discussions with other youths, I recognize that many youths have ideas and desires but do not have the right resources to execute them and direct them in the right direction.
Therefore, the needs that would be met for the conference would encompass all these things so youths can leave the conference not only knowing how to begin making an impact but how to sustain it and pass it to people that surround them.
