Project Summary
Courageous Connections is an online program empowering BIPOC women survivors, through trauma-informed practices. From August 2024 to February 2025, we’ll offer healing webinars, virtual workshops, and support groups, fostering resilience and community. Participants will gain leadership skills and advocate for diversity and inclusion, culminating in an Empowerment Summit. This program aims to build a supportive network and promote empowerment among BIPOC women, enhancing their ability to thrive and lead in their communities.
In addition to peer support meetings, Courageous Connections includes Self-Advocacy Workshops and an Empowerment Summit. The summit will feature a live movement session led by Shakkoi Hibbert, a dance expert focused on using movement to transmute trauma, a keynote speech from Zabie Yamasaki, M.Ed, RYT, a renowned trauma-informed yoga instructor and activist, and a powerful moment where Ashantè Fray, the program’s founder, will share her personal story as a survivor, fostering connection and collective healing.
The impact of Courageous Connections has already been felt by participants, who have shared their powerful experiences in our sessions:
“This was so validating. I needed this at 21.” – Amy
“Thank you everyone for making me feel safe to be vulnerable. Looking forward to the next session.” – Laura
“I love this group for that reason. We have a shared understanding. I really appreciate a space where I don’t feel crazy.” – Cassidy
Addressing Community Needs:
Courageous Connections directly addresses the pressing needs of BIPOC women survivors by providing a platform for healing, empowerment, and community support. Through trauma-informed practices, including workshops focused on trauma recovery, mindfulness, and self-care, participants will receive vital tools to navigate and heal from their experiences. The program also aims to empower women by offering leadership and advocacy training, equipping them with the skills to become agents of change within their communities. By fostering a supportive network through support groups and an online forum, the project creates a space for BIPOC women to connect, share stories, and build resilience together. Ultimately, this initiative promotes diversity, inclusion, and personal growth, empowering BIPOC women to reclaim their voices and lead fulfilling lives beyond their past traumas.
Project Flyer
This program is made possible through the generous support of the Race to an Inclusive Canada Grant, which ensures Courageous Connections remains completely free for survivors. The grant also funds speaker fees, the creation of custom journals, and essential marketing materials—all designed to raise awareness and provide crucial resources. With 1 in 4 girls experiencing abuse before the age of 18, this program plays a vital role in empowering survivors by providing the tools and community support they need to heal and thrive.
