Chimneystack! Summer Play-Days
Hosted By: Toni A.O.
Program For Ages: 5 to 19 Years Old
Our summer program at our apartment building aims to create a fun and enriching experience for the youth. We’ll have soccer and basketball, a trip to Black Creek Farm, cooking healthy meals, and learning days. I’ll also encourage public speaking and let the kids plan their own activities. These activities will build community, teach important skills, and give kids a great summer without needing expensive camps.
Addressing Community Needs:
Access to Engaging Summer Activities: Many youth in our community do not have access to structured and engaging summer programs, especially those that promote physical activity, learning, and skill development.
Nutritional Education and Healthy Eating: By organizing cooking sessions focused on preparing healthy meals, the project aims to educate youth about nutrition and promote healthier eating habits.
Academic Support: Learning days focused on reading and writing provide ongoing academic support during the summer months, helping to prevent learning loss and maintain educational momentum.
Community Engagement and Relationship Building: Activities such as sports, field trips, and public speaking encourage community engagement and foster stronger relationships among youth and their peers.
Empowerment and Ownership: By involving youth in planning their activities for the program, the project promotes empowerment, leadership skills, and a sense of ownership over community initiatives.
