Project Summary:
The AOOC Cultural Art Programmes will be a free art/music program that our volunteers will work on with local community centers (particularly in regions with fewer free programmes: Coquitlam, Richmond, Delta). Working long-term in collaboration with set locations and students. We will provide cultural lessons and artistic design via art supplies and music recorders to bring out the works of various cultures to students to allow them to connect with various artistic styles as well as other BIPOC students.
Addressing Community Need
This project addresses a significant need for accessible arts and culture programming in Metro Vancouver. Most families from poorer communities are unable to afford activities that enrich the lives of their children. The soaring cost of living has stretched most families to the limit in their ability to pay for non-electronic educational choices—very much in demand by parents trying to establish a healthier balance in the lives of their children. By making low-cost or free opportunities for children to participate in arts, music, and creative activities, the project would be opening participation in these developmental experiences to all children, irrespective of their socio-economic background. It is, therefore, beyond education alone; the project looks to enhance community bonding and cultural identity by creating spaces that will unleash a child’s creativity, interlink their feelings with one another, and celebrate Metro Vancouver’s rich diversity. The building of a vibrant, inclusive, and culturally rich community for future generations will, in this way, be helped.
