Safe Place Session
Hosted By: Grace K.
Program For Ages: 10 to 39 Years Old.
Safe Place is a supportive haven for Black women and men to develop better relationships with themselves and their mental health, and to deconstruct the stigmas surrounding mental health in minority communities. We offer separate sessions for women and men, led by mental health specialists. Women’s sessions focus on personal, spiritual, and professional growth, addressing challenges specific to Black women. Men’s sessions promote emotional openness and healing from societal and personal wounds. Activities include skill-building workshops, mental health discussions, mentorship, and networking. Each session fosters connection, support, and empowerment within the community, creating a safe space where every voice is heard and valued.
Addressing Community Needs:
Mental Health Awareness and Support: By offering separate sessions for men and women, Safe Place provides a platform to discuss mental health openly and to deconstruct stigmas surrounding mental health in minority communities. This is crucial for promoting emotional well-being and reducing the stigma associated with seeking mental health care.
Empowerment and Personal Growth: The sessions for women focus on personal, spiritual, and professional growth, addressing unique challenges faced by Black women. This empowers them to overcome obstacles and succeed in various aspects of their lives.
Emotional Openness and Healing: Men’s sessions encourage emotional openness and provide strategies for healing from societal and personal wounds. This support is vital for Black men who may struggle with societal expectations and internalized pressures.
Skill Development and Capacity Building: Through skill-building workshops, participants can acquire new skills that enhance their personal and professional lives. This helps individuals to better navigate and thrive in their environments.
Community Support and Networking: Safe Place fosters connection and support within the community, creating a network where individuals can share experiences, offer mutual support, and build lasting relationships.
Cultural Sensitivity and Representation: By focusing specifically on the needs of Black individuals, Safe Place ensures that the cultural context and unique experiences of the community are acknowledged and respected.
