Hosted By: Patricia M.
Program For Ages: 20 to 29 Years Old.
The 2024 Wellness & Afrobeats Zumba Fest, set for August 24 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Winnipeg, aims to create, promote, and facilitate programs that focus on diversity and inclusion within Canada’s BIPOC community. Targeting individuals aged 18-45, this free event will blend mental health advocacy with the vibrant energy of AfroBeats Zumba to foster a supportive, fun, and inclusive environment. The day will begin with a welcome and opening remarks, followed by a mental health panel featuring licensed Black counselors from Winnipeg who will discuss overcoming stigma, accessing services, and self-care strategies. After the panel, an Afro Beats Zumba competition will take place, allowing participants to compete in a lively and friendly atmosphere, judged on enthusiasm and creativity. Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided during a networking session, encouraging attendees to connect and discuss the day’s insights. The event will conclude with a raffle draw and the announcement of the best dancer, who will receive a special prize. The primary goals are to promote mental wellness, foster community connections, and advocate for more accessible and equitable mental health services for racialized youth. Through social media campaigns, local community engagement, and inclusive messaging, the event aims to draw attention and participation, ultimately creating a positive and lasting impact on Winnipeg’s BIPOC community.
Contributing To An Inclusive Canada
The 2024 Wellness & Afrobeats Zumba Fest is deeply aligned with the grant’s mission to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity across Canada through targeted initiatives. At its core, our event aims to dismantle mental health stigma within the BIPOC community by hosting open discussions led by licensed Black counselors. These sessions are pivotal in fostering a more inclusive approach to mental health care, tackling cultural stigmas, and improving representation within mental health services.
In celebrating cultural diversity, the Afro Beats Zumba competition serves as a vibrant platform not only for promoting physical wellness but also for making health activities accessible and engaging for BIPOC individuals. By infusing cultural elements into wellness practices, we ensure inclusivity and relevance in promoting overall well-being.
Furthermore, the fest catalyzes community building and social inclusion. It provides a nurturing environment where people from diverse backgrounds can connect authentically, fostering positive relationships and a sense of belonging. This aspect is essential for promoting social cohesion and inclusiveness within our community.
Additionally, our panel discussions are dedicated to addressing systemic barriers by advocating for improved access to culturally competent mental health services tailored to the needs of racialized youth. By amplifying voices and addressing disparities in mental health care, we contribute directly to the grant’s goal of advancing equity across Canadian communities. Lastly, our event stands as a beacon for systemic change and social justice. It provides a safe space for dialogue, healing, and advocacy in response to prevalent issues impacting our community. This proactive approach underscores our commitment to fostering an inclusive Canada where everyone has equitable opportunities for well-being and growth.
