COVID Screening Position (Full time contract) 

Immediately to March 31, 2021

 

Street Health is a community based agency that has provided innovative physical and mental health programs and advocacy support to men and women in south east Toronto who are homeless or insecurely housed for over 30 years (www.streethealth.ca).  In response to the COVID 19 pandemic, we have adjusted our programs and services to promote the health and safety of our clients and staff.  To this end, we are screening all clients who are accessing services at Street Health.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for clients accessing services at Street Health.  (Harm Reduction supplies, nursing care, mental health, overdose prevention services, for example)
  • Be aware of and comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) expectations at Street Health.
  • Position will be responsible for ensuring adequate client supplies are available, organized and distributed according to Street Health policies.
  • Support clients to use PPE as needed.  
  • Ask clients the prescribed screening questions as outlined by Street Health 
  • Be aware of programs and services available to clients
  • Refer clients to resources (internal and external) as needed  
  • Contribute to the overall program and policy directions of Street Health
  • Ensure that social distancing in relation to COVID is maintained 
  • Deescalate clients who may be in crisis 
  • Assist in the collection and documentation of statistical data
  • Other duties as required

Experience Required: 

  • Minimum two years’ experience working with homeless and underhoused communities.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Experience working with those with mental health or substance use issues.
  • Diploma in social service work, or related experience
  • Lived experience with mental health, homelessness, substance use or other forms of marginalization an asset.

Skills required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social determinants of health
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity and an understanding of harm reduction
  • Experience advocating for clients, individually and at a systemic level
  • An above average ability for oral and written communication is essential
  • Recent experience working in a community setting preferred
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and supportive in a chaotic environment
  • Excellent client engagement and de-escalation skills
  • Pleasant and respectful attitude
  • Must have a high degree of patience for others
  • Availability to work some flexible hours as needed
  • Valid CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Salary:  $23.77/hour 

Hours: Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm 

Start: ASAP
