Call for Summer Camp Artistic Associates, Shakespeare for Kids Summer Camp

Shakespeare in Action is excited to announce the 22nd year of our Shakespeare for Kids Summer Camp, which takes place this summer in Weston. We’re looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals for the following three positions on our team:

  • Assistant Director – Assistant to the Camp Director
  • Stage Manager – Organise technical element and manage staging needs of two shows at Camp
  • Designer – Oversees set, costume and prop design of production, in collaboration with camp director and campers

Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Education Coordinator and the Summer Camp Director, they will:

  • Attend training and ensure that they understand all camp policies and their role within the camp
  • Assist Summer Camp Directors and Education Coordinator to ensure the safety of all participants & staff
  • Model positive, respectful, and inclusive behaviour at all times
  • Lead camp-specific workshops for campers depending on your expertise (Movements, arts and Crafts, clown etc.)
  • Provide assistance in developing day-to-day plans for camp activities
  • Assist in the creation and mounting of camp productions
  • Supervise campers during lunch hour and help with any activities
  • Promptly report any emergent incidents to Summer Camp Director, and Education Coordinator
  • Help maintain a fun and friendly environment for all participants and staff

The successful candidate will:

  • Be between 15-30 years of age
  • Be able to commit to the full term of employment
  • Have some experience working in leadership roles with youth aged 7-14
  • Have skills and training relevant to the role for which they are applying
  • Be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check

  • A passion for theatre arts and education
  • First Aid training with CPR-C
  • Ability to think on their feet
  • Ability to have fun while working hard

Given the evolving nature of the pandemic, SIA is also planning for the event we need to shift to a digital or hybrid model.
